8D ASSOCIATION

The 8D Association is dedicated to promoting the history of the railways of South Lancashire, Merseyside and North Cheshire.

About Us

The 8D Association was formed in November 2010.

Within only a few months the society had over twenty members and had published the first of its quarterly journals ‘On Shed’.

The society now averages about 80 members per year and the ‘On Shed’ journal is being published four times per year in March, June, September and December..

The group now also runs numerous study tours, illustrated talks along with days out with a transport theme. Over the past few years we have used heritage buses to and from preserved railways and even hired a Blackpool Tram for a tour of their network.

The Association is run by a Committee which meet once every two months and adheres to a constitution, a copy of which can be found here.

Of particular interest to the society are the Garston and Warrington line, the St Helens & Runcorn Gap Railway, the Cheshire Lines Railway main line and the Great Central & Midland Railway Joint Line (the Widnes Loop), the LNWR Widnes Deviation, the LNWR Ditton Junction to Weaver Junction Line, the Birkenhead Railway Warrington and Chester Line, the Cronton Colliery Branch and the Liverpool and Manchester Railway between Liverpool and Parkside.
