Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway

Images from in and around North Liverpool

This section covers the railway lines that were originally operated by the L&YR but not covered by in the other sections on this website. (This page is a work in progress)

A most fascinating image which was common place in the 1950’s and very early 1960’s along the Dock Road and in this instance, travelling along The Strand and passing the Liver Building, Pier Head, is L&Y 0-4-0ST ‘Pug’ No 51237 with three 12T Box vans in tow from the South to North Docks. More fascinating, is the man with the red flag to guide the train safe passage along the road, as well as two young school boys watching the proceedings. 19 April 1960.
